Harnoor joined UNO in 2015 and was asked to lead the transformation of the Student Service and Leadership Collaborative, the Maverick Food Pantry and the refreshing of the Walter Scott, Jr. Scholarship Program, a premier and increasingly-renowned development program for 128 competitively-selected Nebraska high school graduates pursuing degrees in STEM fields.
The program is a partnership between UNO and the Suzanne and Walter Scott Foundation with a mission to support and develop the future leaders of Nebraska through a living-and-learning community; mentoring and coaching programming; supplemental learning, including leadership and life skills; participation in impactful community service; and connecting students to internships, employment, and other opportunities to apply their classroom skills to the community.
An example is Harnoor’s leadership of the development of the COVID-19 app created by three Scott Scholars in partnership with Apple, Inc. and UNMC. Another is his leadership in training students and community members in the Stanford Design Thinking process as applied to Nebraska-focused challenges and opportunities.
“Harnoor is an exceptionally talented colleague that is becoming an internationally recognized leader in optimizing undergraduate human development” said Wayne Watkins, Executive Director of the Suzanne and Walter Scott, Jr. Scholarship program. Harnoor is pursuing a Ph.D. in Higher Education Administration at University of Nebraska at Lincoln, therein practicing the life-long learning and continuous improvement taught to Scott Scholars.
Through his hard work, creativity, and commitment to improving student development, Harnoor represents a true Maverick Spirit that is an inspiration to those he works with and serves.
