After more than 12 years of leadership, Trev Alberts, University of Nebraska at Omaha (UNO) Vice Chancellor for Athletics, has been selected to serve as the new Director of Athletics for the University of Nebraska-Lincoln (UNL) effective Monday, July 19, 2021.
UNO Chancellor Joanne Li, Ph.D., CFA, praised Alberts for his achievements and the university system for recognizing and promoting talent from within the university.
“There is only one word that can describe Trev Alberts and his tenure at UNO: Transformative,” Chancellor Li said. “He oversaw tremendous growth in athletics programs, competitiveness, campus athletics facilities, and critically, academic achievement. The UNO campus community will certainly miss his exceptional talent and skills, yet he will always remain a Maverick. He embodies the creative, entrepreneurial, and independent thinking that is the very core of being a UNO Maverick.”
Alberts’ tenure leading Maverick athletics has been marked by successes in competition and in academics; by transitioning the university’s athletic programs to NCAA Division I in 2011; and by establishing new homes for many UNO athletics teams in the heart of Omaha, including Baxter Arena, the Baseball-Softball Complex, and the soccer pitch at Caniglia Field.
Team achievements during Alberts’ 12-year span include: NCAA tournament berths by men’s soccer in 2017 and 2021; membership in the National Collegiate Hockey Conference (NCHC) and three NCAA tournament appearances; a Summit League baseball championship; and individual NCAA tournament qualifiers in men’s golf, men’s tennis, and women’s track and field.
