Flag Lowering for Joanne Lofton

The UNO flag will be lowered Monday, Aug. 23, in memory of Lofton, who passed away on Aug. 8, 2021, at the age of 84.

UNO Flag Lowering

The University of Nebraska at Omaha (UNO) flag will be lowered on Monday, Aug. 23, in memory of UNO retiree Joanne Lofton.

Joanne passed away on Aug. 8, 2021, at the age of 84.

Starting at UNO in 1972, following the foundation of the College of Public Affairs and Community Service, Joanne was a pillar of the college, retiring in 2003 after more than 30 years of service.

At the end of her tenure, Joane served as assistant dean of CPACS.

Joanne was proceeded in death by her husband William C. Lofton; and her parents.

She is survived by two daughters, Dhana (Joel) Chandler of Omaha and Nikki (Sean) Simmons of Charlotte, NC; two brothers, Charles P. Adams III of Tuskeegee, AL, and Michael Ronald Fernandes of Los Angeles, CA; eight grandchildren; one great grandchild; and many other relatives and friends.

A service was held for Joanne on Thursday, Aug. 19.

The thoughts and condolences of the university community are with Joanne's loved ones during this time.
