Taricka Burton Earns Board of Regents Kudos Award

At their December meeting, the University of Nebraska (NU) System Board of Regents presented Taricka Burton, Executive Director of the Office of Student Leadership and Involvement at the University of Nebraska at Omaha (UNO), with a Kudos Award for her leadership and unwavering commitment to student success.
Cornelius Levering, outreach coordinator of the Office of Student Leadership and Involvement, said that “Taricka is an exceptional leader with an incredible ability to inspire others. She consistently goes above and beyond to ensure her team feels supported, comfortable, and confident in their roles. Her leadership is rooted in humility and a genuine commitment to service. She never hesitates to step in and assist wherever needed.”
He continued, “Whether it is providing guidance, filling in gaps, or taking on tasks outside her formal responsibilities, Taricka leads by example. No task is ever beneath her, and that mindset fosters a strong, collaborative environment for everyone around her.”
Burton guides the office in securing critical funding and demonstrates exceptional skill in managing fiscal budgets, helping to keep operations grounded and sustainable. She has also been instrumental in strengthening relationships with community partners, including securing a grant to grow and expand the Summer Scholars Program, which has supported students since 1989.
“Her unwavering commitment to fostering educational access and opportunity is unmatched,” said Levering. “Taricka truly embodies the Maverick Spirit, leading with purpose, integrity, and a student-first mindset.”
In presenting the Board of Regents KUDOS award to Burton, UNO Student Body President/Regent Drew Leisy thanked Burton for her dedication to UNO.
